Cadillac ATS (2013)

CARBARN | Cadillac ATS (2013) | Cadillac ATS to make a lighter car segment was a key criterion for and guiding principle during its development, but was done in one. Subtle, providing a refined driving experience Cadillac ATS offers reduced weight a more responsive and manageable, while optimizing the engines performance and efficiency". Said David Mascha, ATS chief engineer "But we were careful to control your weight while maintaining Cadillac's signature levels of refinement. An aluminum hood, the engine mounting brackets magnesium and even light, natural fibreboard door trim help Cadillac ATS generally low table - and reflects the systematic approach to evaluate each program who entered the car. But a bit of weight was considered not only beneficial but essential to ATS Cadillac driving experience.

This helps to compensate for the weight of the engine and transmission to the front of the vehicle to help deliver Cadillac ATS almost perfect balance weight 50/50, but also contribute to the noise and vibration. We approached the development, counting every gram of ATS," said Mascha. Seventeen-inch wheels are standard and 18 inches are available. Bold vertical LED lighting elements - including new front lighting signature details - and the door handles and grille shutters lend active style of art and function shiny Cadillac ATS. Shutters Grille near highway speeds to reduce some drag and increase fuel economy. A driver-focused interior with integrated technology and craft materials complements and supports the external factors driving experience of ATS.  Number of available seats are power-adjustable performance support to optimize lateral support when cornering at high load.

LED lighting on the instrument panel allows clear bold at first viewing in all lighting conditions, while the functional elements of lighting accents the console and doors. Real wood, metal plating and a nickel finish and carbon fiber Cadillac, cut and sew panel, center console and door Cadillac ATS strengthen the emotional bond. ATS is offered by Cadillac cue, extensive experience in vehicle design that combines an intuitive, self-controlled industry and the first requests for information and entertainment. For example, most luxury cars have now about 20 control buttons and entertainment functions. LCD screen displays vibrant CUE home page that looks like a smartphone screen using large, easy target icons to execute commands.

Safety in ATS is based in Cadillac, "warning and control" strategy that uses advanced technologies - including radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors - to help prevent accidents. In some cases, Cadillac advanced crash avoidance systems will work without drivers, and automatic brake, which will act on information indicating the potential dangers. Among the more sophisticated features front and rear brake is automatic. Advanced security technology features full registration Cadillac ATS safety features including eight standard air bags (10 with optional features), safety belt tensioners and load limiters, StabiliTrak electronic stability control with traction control and brake disc in four wheels with four-channel ABS. 2013 Cadillac ATS also has OnStar standard for one year.

2013 Cadillac ATS offers a driving experience that the progress of performance of the old brand, with a balance of track-tuned and refined without compromising control. Multi-link suspension in double-pivot front - MacPherson-based design - is used for a more precise sense of control, including steering more linear and communicative, and a smooth ride. Arms control, tree and body form a four-bar link efficiently to every part of the front suspension, creating virtual pivot point for greater control pump.  Drawing of the front suspension also allows a longer axis, pivot and more positive steering offset geometry for better steering control, outstanding straight-line stability and a more refined ride.

Kinematics of the front suspension of ATS are more complicated, but the reward is worth the way drives the car," said Berube. "Drivers will feel directly connected to the front wheels are, but with a comfortable degree of isolation that makes a big Cadillac Touring Car ATS units long. On the back of the ATS is the first five-link independent suspension for a Cadillac. It is designed to help reduce the movement of the roll center, allowing a positive side, reduce the "squat" under acceleration and promotes excellent dynamic stability. Four handling links (with upper and lower arms control) are used to control each wheel moving parts and a toe binding of each wheel, provide additional horizontal control - especially in hard cornering. Upper and lower links to create a double-arm design effective, although the links are mounted independently.

Like the front suspension, five link points of articulation creates virtual engineers of ATS used to optimize the geometry. The use of an aluminum support, would have reduced the total weight of ATS, but I found several pounds of rear suspension helped the front / rear weight balance close to the ideal 50-50," said David Mascha, ATS chief engineer. Seventeen inches (17x8 cm) wheels and tires are used 225/40-series standard 18x8-inch wheels and rubber 255/35-series Cadillac ATS are offered with run-flat tires. Models with rear wheels are 18x9-inch Fe3 suspension. Other models have a conveyor 7.67 inches. Rack ATS are new advanced suspension damping, steering and braking systems, including Magnetic Ride Control. Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) is the heart of Fe3 sport suspension package, which is included in the Premium Collection and also includes a mechanical limited slip differential, cooling system and high-capacity 18-inch summer performance tires.

MRC, conventional mechanical shock and strut valves are replaced by electronic control units filled with a magnetorheological fluid containing iron particles minutes. In Input sensor determines the required amount of resistance ranging from load to optimize magnetic damping. Fe3 settings adjustable suspension allows the driver to select various periods of depreciation Magnetic Ride Control, including a competitive manner, which also regulates the intervention of stability control and traction control systems. All models come with an electric Cadillac ATS premium system, variable assist power steering from ZF steering systems.

our-wheel disc brakes are standard on all models, Brembo performance brakes available in standard and included in the collections of performance, luxury and premium. Wheel drive is available for greater traction on wet and icy. All-new, rear-wheel drive luxury sedan Cadillac ATS sport compact, efficient engines, 2.5le next-generation six-speed transmission, is priced at $ 33,990, including destination fees.

Cadillac XTS (2013)

CARBARN | Cadillac XTS (2013) | No one has the 2013 Cadillac XTS 'door handles. Instead of lighting up the door handle pockets like most modern luxury cars, Cadillac puts light pipes in the door handles Themselves, making them easy to grab in the dark. The XTS 'front-wheel drive may seem disconcerting if you've gotten used to the idea of reverting back to the Cadillac rear-wheel-drive cars.  That sheetmetal does not diverge much from the XTS Platinum concept from a couple of years ago. For production, the car relies on modern technology to bend the sheetmetal in interesting Airways, Such as the Escher-esque twist in the top of the rear fender lines coming off the sail panels.

The grille badge looks large enough to adorn an Escalade. Cadillac says some grille shutters from the concept REMAIN, though of course the plug-in hybrid powerplant does.  The vertical LED headlamps, standard on the Platinum trim level, the thin vertical taillamps mimic That Became a signature with the 2008 Cadillac CTS and are so distinctive at night. Like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Jaguar, distinctive premium lighting is a big deal on this car. Look closely at the show car's seats and you'll notice a dark purple stitching subtly That contrasts with the black leather.

Cadillac will offer six different interior color / wood trim combinations, a controlled kind of buyer customization plan for the the vast majority of customers, WHO prefer to purchase off the lot rather than cars and wait orders. Cadillac has not replicated the laser-etched leather seats of the 2010 Detroit show XTS Platinum concept, though it has replicated the pattern perforated leather dash. The perforations Appear tight at the middle of the dash, then space out as your eyes progress to either outer side of the dash

The car will be available in two trim levels when it goes on sale in Spring of '12: XTS and XTS Platinum. Mercedes touts an almost Cadillac-level of safety items in this car, Including 10 airbags (including two front knee bags), front and rear park assists, distronic optional cruise control, rear cross-traffic alerts, blind side alerts, and lane-departure alerts with haptic warnings in the driver's seat. Of course, the XTS Platinum also marks the debut of the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system, with its haptic touch screen and advanced voice control. CUE can tell whether the hand touching its center screen is coming from the driver's seat or the front passenger's seat. If Cadillac can get Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on board, the front passenger - but not the driver - will be Able to apply the navigation directions while the car is moving. Where does the XTS fit into the Cadillac lineup?

The trunk is a carpeted cavern, and at 18 cubic feet is 4 cubic feet more commodious than the competition, while rear seat legroom is 4 inches better than the competition. The rear seats fold down 60/40, and unlike many other luxury cars, the rear seat climate controls have the same kind of jewelry as on the dash. Thanks to the magnetic ride control, the car has a dynamic sport mode, though it's about precise, controlled comfort, not ramp-carving. Cadillac has eschewed electronic power steering, electing to stick with a hydraulic system instead. It's the most mainstream of new Cadillac models, the sedan for people WHO aspire to comfort and luxury but do not care how fast the car can get around the Nurburgring.

Cadillac CTS Coupe (2012)

CARBARN | Cadillac CTS Coupe (2012) | The revised direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6 now puts out 318 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, thanks mostly to intake changes, Including larger valves, revised ports, and a tweaked camshaft That keeps the intake valves open longer.

Compared to last year's 3.6-liter V-6, this year's iteration is nearly 21 pounds lighter, 13 pounds were saved by Integrating the heads and exhaust manifolds, 2 pounds from a lighter-weight front-drive accessory cover and new connecting rods, and 5.5 CAME out from using a plastic intake manifold in place of last year's aluminum piece. The manual is no longer available with the 3.6-liter, however.

The 2012 CTS's standard-equipment list sees Bluetooth added to all models and a blind-spot monitoring system to the coupe (good thing, Because the two-door's rakish roofline and wide C-pillars the make for huge blind spots). A new Touring package is available with either engine and with any body style, and adds a dark-finish grille, metal pedal covers, dark wood trim, and V-style suede stuff covering the steering wheel, shift knob, and seat inserts. The line-wide cosmetic changes are less extensive.

2013 Cadillac ATS Challenges the Status Quo
• All-new, lightweight, rear-wheel-drive architecture with one of the lowest curb weights in the segment – less than 3,400 pounds (1,542 kg)
• Broad lineup of engines, including two four-cylinders and a V-6 for North America, capitalizes on lightweight structure for performance with efficiency
• Cadillac CUE, a comprehensive, in-vehicle experience that merges intuitive design with auto industry-first controls and commands for information and entertainment data

DETROIT – Cadillac today introduced the 2013 ATS, an all-new compact luxury sports sedan intended to challenge the world’s best premium cars. Developed on an all-new, lightweight vehicle architecture, Cadillac’s entry into the world’s most significant luxury car segment goes on sale this summer.

The rear-drive ATS brings Cadillac’s blend of technologically driven performance, elegance and design to a new audience of spirited drivers. Its sophisticated driving experience is enhanced with Cadillac CUE, a comprehensive, in-vehicle user experience that merges intuitive design with industry-first controls and commands for information and media data.

“Designed with quick, nimble and fun-to-drive dynamics, ATS expands Cadillac’s portfolio into a crucial global segment,” said Don Butler, vice president of marketing for Cadillac. “For a new group of luxury consumers, this is a car that will fit their lifestyle and challenge the segment’s status quo.”

The Cadillac ATS is a new expression of Cadillac’s Art & Science execution philosophy, built on a foundation of driving dynamics and mass efficiency. It is the most agile and lightweight Cadillac, with one of the lowest curb weights in the segment – less than 3,400 pounds (1,542 kg).
Germany’s famed Nürburgring served as one of the key testing grounds, along with additional roads, racetracks and laboratories around the globe, ATS engineers balanced performance with Cadillac’s trademark refinement. Contributing components and features include:
• Nearly 50/50 weight balance
• Cadillac’s first five-link independent rear suspension using lightweight, high-strength steel and efficient straight link designs
• A multi-link double-pivot MacPherson-strut front suspension with direct-acting stabilizer bar
• Driver-adjustable FE3 sport suspension with Magnetic Ride Control real-time damping
• Underbody aerodynamic shields
• Premium (belt driven) electric variable-effort steering gear from ZF Steering Systems
• Four-channel ABS with available Brembo performance brakes
• Available all-wheel drive

“More than just another new entry, the ATS aims to change the status quo of the European-dominated segment,” said Butler. “That is why our approach in all elements of its development is so extensive and focused.”

A broad lineup of engines – including two four-cylinders and a V-6 for North America – delivers strong power to the ATS and capitalizes on the car’s lightweight structure to complement its performance with efficiency. The optional engines include an all-new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 270 horsepower (201 kW) and Cadillac’s award-winning 3.6L V-6, estimated at 320 horsepower (238 kW).

At 135hp/L, the new 2.0T is one of the most power-dense engines in the industry, topping engines from European competitors. ATS will offer both manual and automatic transmission options, along with rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The ATS will deliver peak highway fuel economy of more than 30 mpg.
CUE and ATS technologies
The ATS is offered with Cadillac CUE, a comprehensive, in-vehicle experience that merges intuitive design with auto industry-first controls and commands for information and entertainment data. It is designed to be unique for each consumer, from the “simple user” to the fully connected “super user.”

CUE, which stands for Cadillac User Experience, pairs entertainment and information data from up to 10 Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices, USBs, SD cards and MP3 players with a vehicle infotainment system that reduces complexity through customized information, voice commands and fewer buttons and larger icons. For example, most of today’s luxury cars have around 20 buttons controlling the radio and entertainment functions. CUE has only four.

The heart of CUE is the eight-inch LCD multi-touch sensitive screen, seamlessly integrated into the top of the central instrument panel and a motorized fully capacitive faceplate at the bottom concealing a 1.8L storage area. The vibrant LCD screen displays CUE’s home page, which resembles a smart phone’s screen by using large, easy-to-target icons to execute commands. Capacitive technology refers to using electrodes to sense the conductive properties of objects, such as a finger.
In addition to CUE, the ATS is offered with other technologies, including:
• Bluetooth phone connectivity with voice recognition
• USB, auxiliary and SD memory card ports
• SiriusXM Satellite Radio with three-month trial subscription
• Keyless access and keyless push-button start
• Reconfigurable 5.7-inch instrument panel cluster display
• Full-color reconfigurable heads-up display.

The ATS is offered as a well-equipped standard model and in Luxury, Performance and Premium Collections. A Bose® Cabin Surround audio system is offered on the standard model, as well as Luxury and Performance Collections. It is standard with the Premium Collection. A navigation system is also available with Luxury and Performance Collections and standard with the Premium Collection.

Control and alert’ safety strategy
Safety in the ATS is based on Cadillac’s “control and alert” strategy that employs advanced technologies – including radar, cameras and ultrasonic sensors – to help prevent crashes.

The safety features bolster driver vision and awareness of road hazards, and intervenes to help the driver avert potential crashes. In some cases, Cadillac’s advanced crash-avoidance systems will act without the driver, such as automatic braking, which will activate based on information indicating potential hazards.

Among the most sophisticated of the features is Front and Rear Automatic Brakes. This relies on short-range radar technology and ultrasonic sensors to help the driver prevent front and rear low-speed collisions via a progression of alerts that extend to complete braking, if necessary.
Optional advanced safety features include:
• Full Speed Range Adaptive Cruise Control
• Intelligent Brake Assist
• Forward Collision Alert
• Brake Pre-Fill Automatic Collision Preparation
• Lane Departure Warning
• Side Blind Zone Alert
• Rear Vision Camera With Dynamic Guidelines
• Adaptive Forward Lighting
• Hill Hold/Start Assist (Standard, manual transmission)

The advanced technology safety features complement the ATS’s roster of other safety features, including eight standard air bags (10 with optional features), safety belt pretensioners and load limiters, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with traction control and four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS.

ATS also features OnStar standard for one year. It can use GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in the event of a crash. OnStar service also includes myCadillac and OnStar myLink mobile apps, which offer vehicle information, controls and OnStar services via the customer’s iPhone or Android smart phone.

Cadillac CTS Coupe First Drive 2011

Our equation for calculating the desirability of a two-door coupe based on a sedan platform is pretty simple: Does the two-door version offer enough additional visual appeal to offset the loss in practicality that is the inevitable result of the loss of two doors, rear-seat space and trunk capacity? This is the basic question we sought to answer in our first opportunity to drive the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe.

But first, let us give you a couple examples of how this math works, one on each end of the practicality-versus-beauty scale.

Despite using many of the same building blocks, there's a world of difference between the desirability of an Audi A4 sedan and an Audi A5 coupe. Safe to say that in the minds and eyes of those around our office, the A5's beauty more than offsets its loss of capacity.

Once upon a time, when two-door versions of sedans were more commonplace, there were both four-door and two-door versions of the Dodge Aries K-car. Now, the decision between those two might be just as easy as between the Audis, but the result would be different.

You Look...Fabulous!
Unless you happen to be viewing the coupe from the front, there's no mistaking it for the sedan with which it shares almost all of its mechanical systems. Sure, it shares a certain Cadillac-style angularity, but the coupe is a shocking thing to behold on the road. In the grand scheme of things, the greater the differentiation between the sedan and the coupe, the better. And to the eyes of most on our staff, the coupe is unusually handsome.

It does not follow the basic silhouette of the classic coupe — that smooth-and-sexy style executed so nicely on the A5 and the BMW 3 Series coupes. It looks, well, it must be said, like a hatchback of sorts. The angle of the backlight and trunk lid is so similar that from several paces away, it's not obvious that the CTS Coupe even has a trunk in the conventional sense.

The arrangement means that the rear flanks of the coupe cover an unusual amount of square footage. Some love it; some dislike it intensely, but everyone can agree that it's going to look its best when wearing very, very large wheels. Our pre-production test car wore the optional 19-inch wheels that come with the Summer Tire package. We wouldn't go any smaller. The base-level car wears 18s.

And for a brand that's still climbing out of the doldrums of its recent history, polarizing, unconventional styling isn't a bad thing. Then again, unconventional styling can be much less, um, attractive. We're looking directly at you, BMW 6 Series coupe.

We're buying wholeheartedly the shapes of the CTS Coupe's rear, yes, even the showy, chrome-rimmed exhaust outlets in the rear bumper cover. And we flat love the vertical taillights with their sharp peaks and the thorny-looking center brake light/spoiler. To offset all these vertical emphasis, Cadillac gave the coupe a wider rear track than the sedan (by about an inch).

Another uncommonly attractive detail is the inset touchpads that replace the sedan's conventional door handles. They allow for an uninterrupted flow along the car's flank, and their angular shape nicely suits this origami car.

For us, then, the CTS Coupe scores high on the design side of the coupe-vs.-sedan equation. And because it's American (built in Lansing, Michigan, it is), you can refer to it as a "coop," and not the pretentious European "coo-pay."

Cadillac CTS-V Coupe 2011

The Cadillac CTS-V Coupe 2011 which debuts at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit comes with the LSA 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine also found on the CTS-V Sport Sedan. Rated at 556 horsepower (415 kW) and 551 lb.-ft. of torque (747 Nm), it is the most powerful engine offered in Cadillac’s history and propels the CTS-V Coupe from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

A pair of six-speed transmissions is offered in the CTS-V Coupe: a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual with a dual-disc clutch and a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic with paddle-shift control.

CTS-V includes sophisticated braking and tire systems, in partnership with two companies renowned for high-performance technology: Brembo and Michelin. Brembo brakes are at all four corners and include powerful, six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear. Michelin partnered with Cadillac engineers to develop its acclaimed Pilot Sport PS2 summer tire for CTS-V and its exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels. The tires support high levels of grip in track conditions, while also affording good performance on the road.
