Mercedes-Benz GL-Class (2013)

CARBARN | Mercedes-Benz GL-Class (2013) | The trenches GL550 its naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 for the twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8, which is spreading like wildfire about Mercedes' lineup. It produces 429 hp and a thick 516 pounds-feet of torque increase of 47 ponies and 125 lb-ft over the old mill. The entry-level GL450 has a new, detuned version of the GL550 engine that makes 362 hp and 406 hp. All three engines couple with a seven-speed automatic transmission and send power to all four wheels via a standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Despite the increased performance and capacity, Mercedes promises "significant" improvements in fuel economy, though the automaker has yet to publish accurate mileage figures.

The GL rides on an air suspension Airmatic, which automatically adjust to road conditions and can be fitted with an active cornering system, which worked to compensate for body roll during cornering. Collision Prevention Assist is a radar-based system to prevent or mitigate collisions or works. Crosswind stabilization uses selective braking in the event of a strong crosswind to keep the vehicle on its intended course.

A long list of options available, with highlights such as a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a "panoramic" sunroof and a surround-view parking system that uses the front and rear cameras to create a bird's eye view of the vehicle and its environment.
